Car-free ring road on September 22
On Sunday, September 22, 2023, the Leipzig city council will host the 13th car-free ring. From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the approximately 12-kilometer route around the city center will be closed to motorized traffic.
The car-free ring road is a popular event for cyclists, skaters and pedestrians. In 2022, around 200,000 people took part.
Route of the car-free ring
The route of the car-free ring leads along the following streets:
- Richard-Wagner-Straße
- Tröndlinring
- Prager Straße
- Georg-Schumann-Straße
- Zschochersche Straße
- Karl-Liebknecht-Straße
- Wilhelm-Liebknecht-Platz
- Goerdelerring
- Hainstraße
- Dittrichring
- Goethestraße
- Ritterstraße
- Martin-Luther-Ring
- Universitätsstraße
The following streets will also be closed to traffic:
- Querstraßen zum Innenstadtring
- Zufahrten zu Parkhäusern und Tiefgaragen
- Bushaltestellen im Innenstadtbereich
Public transport
During the car-free ring road, public transport will be increased. The following lines will be diverted:
- Tram lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 and 16
- Bus lines 60, 65, 70, 73, 74, 76, 80, 85, 89, 90 and 91

Parking
On the day of the car-free ring, there will be no parking spaces available in the inner city. Visitors are advised to use public transport or park their cars in the park-and-ride car parks on the outskirts of the city.
